Sigma Chi's reference manual, The Norman Shield, is an aid used during pledgeship to gain knowledge and understanding of the Sigma Chi Fraternity and the chapter. It assists in preparing for Initiation into the active, lifelong brotherhood of Sigma Chi.
 
The 150th Anniversary Edition of The Norman Shield emphasizes current programs and goals, as well as concepts and material developed during the Fraternity’s 150-year history and the previous 39 editions of the pledge manual since 1929.
